On a typical sale in the US, Etsy keeps about 11% of what the buyer pays. That number hides four separate fees, and one of them (Offsite Ads) can take another 15% without you clicking anything. Here is each fee, what it is charged on, and a worked example.

The short answer

1. Listing fee

Every listing costs $0.20 and lasts four months. When an item sells, Etsy renews the listing and charges $0.20 again; if a buyer orders three of the same item, that is three renewals. It is small per sale, but it adds up if you list hundreds of products that never sell.

2. Transaction fee

Etsy takes 6.5% of the item price and of the shipping you charge. Many sellers miss the second part: moving the cost into "shipping" does not avoid the fee. Offering free shipping and building it into the price costs the same and ranks better in Etsy search.

3. Payment processing fee

Etsy Payments charges 3% + $0.25 per order in the US. Rates differ by country, and if your bank account is in a different currency than your shop, Etsy adds a 2.5% currency conversion fee on top.

4. Offsite Ads fee

Etsy advertises listings on Google, Meta and other sites. If a buyer clicks one of those ads and buys within 30 days, you pay 15% of the order, up to $100.00. Shops under $10,000 a year in sales can opt out; above that it is mandatory at 12%. Price with it in mind, because you cannot tell in advance which orders will carry it.

A worked example

A $29.99 item with free shipping, $9 product cost and $4.50 shipping.
LineAmount
Order total (buyer pays)$29.99
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee−$1.95
Payment processing−$1.15
Product + shipping cost−$13.50
Profit$13.19 (44% margin)
The same order when it came from an Offsite Ad.
LineAmount
Order total (buyer pays)$29.99
Listing fee−$0.20
Transaction fee−$1.95
Payment processing−$1.15
Offsite Ads−$4.50
Product + shipping cost−$13.50
Profit$8.69 (29% margin)

The same item makes $13.19 on a normal sale and $8.69 when it came from an Offsite Ad. If your margin only works without Offsite Ads, raise the price.

Fees that are not on every order

  • Etsy Ads (onsite): whatever daily budget you set, charged per click.
  • Regulatory operating fee: a small percentage in some countries, such as the UK, France, Italy and Spain.
  • Etsy Plus: an optional monthly subscription with listing credits.
  • Shipping labels: what you pay if you buy labels through Etsy.

How to price an Etsy product

Start from your landed cost (product + shipping to the buyer), add every fee, and keep at least a 30–35% margin before ads. Our calculator does this the other way round: enter the cost and it gives you the lowest price ending in .99 that still leaves that margin.

Rates are Etsy's published US rates as of the date above. Etsy changes them from time to time; its own Fees & Payments Policy always wins.
