eBay Seller Fees 2026: How Much Does eBay Take Per Sale?

For most categories in the US, eBay keeps 13.6% of the order plus a $0.40 per-order fee. Payment processing is already included, so unlike Etsy or a Shopify store there is no separate card fee. The catch is what the percentage is charged on, and the ad fees many sellers add on top.

The short answer

Per-order fee$0.40 ($0.30 on orders of $10.00 or less)Each order

1. Final value fee

This is the main fee: 13.6% for most categories. It is charged on the whole order, including the shipping you charge and the sales tax eBay collects from the buyer. Some categories are lower or higher (for example parts of Clothing, Books and Business & Industrial), so check your category before you price.

2. Per-order fee

Every order also pays $0.40, or $0.30 when the order total is $10.00 or less. On cheap items this fixed fee hurts more than the percentage, which is why bundles and multi-packs work well on eBay.

3. Insertion fees

Sellers without an eBay Store get 250 free listings a month; each one after that costs $0.35 per category. An eBay Store subscription gives more free listings and a slightly lower final value fee, which pays off once you sell regularly.

4. Promoted Listings

Promoted Listings Standard is eBay's pay-per-sale ad: you pick an ad rate, and when a buyer clicks the ad and buys within 30 days, eBay charges that percentage of the order. Most competitive categories need 3–8% to get visibility, so treat it as part of your cost, not an extra.

A worked example

A $34.99 item with free shipping, $11 product cost and $5 shipping.
LineAmount
Order total (buyer pays)$34.99
Final value fee−$4.76
Per-order fee−$0.40
Product + shipping cost−$16.00
Profit$13.83 (40% margin)
The same order sold through a 5% Promoted Listing.
LineAmount
Order total (buyer pays)$34.99
Final value fee−$4.76
Per-order fee−$0.40
Promoted Listings−$1.75
Product + shipping cost−$16.00
Profit$12.08 (35% margin)

Without ads the item makes $13.83; with a 5% Promoted Listing it makes $12.08. Price for the promoted case if you plan to advertise.

Fees that are not on every order

  • International fee: 1.65% when the buyer or their address is outside the US.
  • Below-standard surcharge: +6% on the final value fee if your seller performance drops below standard.
  • Optional listing upgrades, such as a subtitle or bold title.
  • Shipping labels bought through eBay.

How to price an eBay product

Add up your landed cost, the final value fee, the per-order fee and your promoted rate, and keep at least a 30–35% margin. The calculator works backwards from your cost and gives you the lowest .99 price that still leaves that margin.

Rates are eBay's published US rates for most categories as of the date above. eBay changes them from time to time; its own Selling fees page always wins.
